KANANI AKINA

Girl of the Year of 2011

On January 1st, 2011, American Girl released Kanani Akina as the ninth doll in the Girl of the Year line. Kanani Akina is the second multiracial character with the first character being Jess McConnell. However, Kanani is the first character from Hawaii. Just like the previous Girl of the Year dolls, Kanani was out for only one year and sold out before her year was over. Kanani Akina is not available to purchase from American Girl today.

"Living on the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i, Kanani is filled with the aloha spirit. She loves to make visitors feel welcome. Kanani works at her family's business, Akina's Shave Ice and Sweet Treats. She also helps protect the Hawaiian monk seal" (American Girl Ultimate Visual Guide 66).
