The Best Friends To Historical Characters

In 2004, American Girl released Nellie O'Malley as the first best friend doll and was released to celebrate Samantha's movie. Since then, American Girl has released more Best Friends dolls to join the Historical Characters. Every Best Friend doll, except for Ivy Ling, has been released with the corresponding movie.  This isn't the case for Ivy Ling, she was released when Julie came out. 

In 2014, American Girl announced the retirement of line. The reason for the retirement is unknown, but it was rumored that the retirement of the line was due to business reasons.
