HISTORICAL CHARACTERS
The first line of American Girl was Historical Characters. Pleasant Rowland's main goal was to teach girls about America's History. The first dolls were Samantha Parkington, Kirsten Larson, and Molly Mclntire. These dolls shared the same face mold, but with different eyes and hair. The first dolls were created with white musline bodies. In 1991, these dolls were changed to a matching tone. Other face molds were later created for other dolls.
In 2014, a reboot of the line happened. The line is now called BeForever and still focuses on America's History. The reboot of the line consisted of resigned outfits, two-volume of previous books, and a journey book. The reboot also had dolls that were retired, be re-released again. The line today gives girls today the opportunity to explore the past and think about all the possibilities the future will bring.
In 2019, another reboot of the line happened. American Girl decided to go back to calling the line Historical Characters. The reboot brought the characters new book covers and brought back book illustrations.
In May of 2021, American Girl rereleased the six original dolls. Each doll was released in its original meet outfit, meet accessories, original meet book, and original box. These dolls were available until they sold out. Samantha Parkington was the last doll to sell out on November 9th, 2021. In the Fall of 2021, American Girl partnered with Carly Cushnie. Carly Cushnie redesigned the six original dolls into modern dolls. Only one of each six characters was made and was auctioned off through eBay. All of the money went to Girls Who Code.
Our Historical Characters gives girls today strong role models for reaching their dreams.
