Samantha Parkington was the first-ever doll to be released by American Girl with Molly Mclntire, and Kirsten Larson. Samantha was also the first doll to be retired and re-released. Samantha was re-released in the Historical Character relaunched, called BeForever. Samantha was also the first doll to go from having a full collection to being cubed in 2017 with Addy Walker.

In May of 2021, American Girl rereleased the first six historical characters in their original form. Samantha was a part of this release and was the last doll to sell out by selling out in November of 2021.

In August of 2021, the BeForever version of Samantha received a new book cover and a new logo.

Overall, Samantha is still available for purchase from American Girl today.

In the Fall of 2021, American Girl partnered with Carly Cushnie. With this partnership, the original six dolls were redesigned into modern characters. Only one was made and auctioned off through eBay.
